Love and Compassion in Therapy:
How to say "I love you" in session
Sometimes, being the therapist means saying "I love you" first. It means
putting one's heart on the line in service of the client. For the
clinician it can be wonderful to provide care, yet it can also be a real
risk. Our own issues around commitment, intimacy and attachment are
always present. This workshop explores how love and compassion play into
the therapeutic relationship. It helps mental health workers better
understand themselves as a therapist and how their attachment styles
inform their work. Through lecture, personal reflection and activities,
participants will come to better understand how love and compassion shows up in their work.
